Officers of the Lagos State Police Command have apprehended a security guard, Amos Kini, in connection with the disappearance of a two-year-old child in the Elemoro area of Lagos.
According to a report filed by the child’s mother, Kini allegedly vanished with the toddler on September 21.
She reported the incident to the Elemoro Division at about 11:50 p.m. the same day, stating that the guard also took off with their mobile phone.
He allegedly contacted the child’s father through the stolen phone and demanded N5 million for his release.
Confirming the incident, the Lagos Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Abimbola Adebisi, said operatives commenced investigation immediately the complaint was received, which led to the suspect’s arrest on September 23.
“The scene was promptly visited and documented, one Aruna Dauda who stood as guarantor for the suspect before his employment, was taken in for questioning.
“As efforts to locate the suspect intensified, the police sustained operational pressure through intelligence gathering and coordinated surveillance. This ultimately forced the suspect to release the child. However, the operatives continued their manhunt, determined to bring the perpetrator to justice.
“On 23rd September, 2025, at about 1400hrs, operatives of the Tactical Squad (Hyena), acting on credible intelligence, successfully tracked and arrested Amos Kini at his hideout within the Elemoro area. The suspect has since confessed to the crime and remains in police custody. He will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, strongly condemned the abduction of the innocent child, reaffirming the command’s unwavering commitment to combating all forms of violent and capital crimes in the state.
“He urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant, and advised members of the public to report any suspicious activities to the police through any of our emergency numbers 08063299264, 09053872208, 08087332678,” she said.
