NURTW Leader charged with murder in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has charged a chieftain of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Samsideen Oladiti, popularly known as Shamelon, in court.

Officers brought Oladiti before Ebute Metta Magistrates’ Court 2 on Tuesday over the alleged murder of a dispatch rider.

Police had earlier arrested the 55-year-old following accusations of assault and murder.

According to a statement by the Command’s Deputy Public Relations Officer, Babaseyi Oluseyi, Oladiti allegedly attacked the dispatch rider on Lagos Island, striking him repeatedly with a helmet and his fists, causing severe injuries.

A separate complaint had previously been filed against the suspect in connection with an incident on August 28, 2025.
