A part of the Rivers State Government Secretariat in Port Harcourt was engulfed by fire on Monday.

Although the cause of the fire remains unknown, TheCable gathered that the affected area accommodates the Rivers State Pension Board.

Honour Sirawoo, the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Information, confirmed the incident.

Sirawoo said firefighters from both the state and Federal Fire Services (FFS) were at the scene, working tirelessly to extinguish the flames.

He added that it is not yet clear if there were any casualties.

Recently, Governor Siminalayi Fubara dissolved the Pensions Board inaugurated by Ibok-Ete Ibas, the immediate past sole administrator of the state, on September 12.

Following the dissolution, the office of the accountant-general was directed to oversee the board’s duties pending the establishment of a new one.
