The Super Eagles boosted their chances of reaching the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a crucial 2–1 victory over Lesotho in Friday’s Group C qualifier held in Polokwane, South Africa.
Debutant Akor Adams opened the scoring for Nigeria before captain William Troost-Ekong doubled the lead from the penalty spot. Lesotho pulled one back late in the game, but the Eagles held firm to secure all three points.
The win moves Nigeria to 14 points, maintaining third place in Group C. Benin Republic remain top with 17 points following their 1–0 win over Rwanda, while South Africa stay second on 15 points after a goalless draw with Zimbabwe.
The result marks Nigeria’s third win in nine World Cup qualifying matches as they continue their push for a place at the 2026 Mundial.
