The Niger State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has dismissed reports alleging that lives were lost during an operation to apprehend illegal miners at the Kateregi mining site in the Sabon-Daga area along the Minna-Bida road.
In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, DSC Abubakar Rabiu Muti, clarified that no civilian was killed or injured in the incident.
He explained that on October 16, 2025, at about 9:22 a.m., NSCDC operatives came under attack from hoodlums while trying to arrest individuals involved in illegal mining activities.
The NSCDC described as fake news, information that some illegal miners were killed by its officers at a mining site at Kateregi,
It was gathered that three weeks ago about three illegal miners lost their lives at the mining site, hence the decision by the command to station its marshal to end illegal mining as well as the further loss of lives.
However, the NSCDC spokesperson, Rabiu Muti, said, on October 16, 2025, at approximately 9:22 am, the Command’s personnel were attacked by hoodlums while attempting to arrest suspects engaged in illegal mining activities.
He insisted, “We wish to clarify this disturbing rumour against our Mining Marshals at Sabon Daga area of Bosso Local Government. There was no loss of life or injury to civilians during this incident, our personnel acted professionally, and the damage reported was limited to our vehicles”.
“Despite being attacked, our personnel exercised restraint and professionalism, pulling out of the area without escalating the situation,” Muti stated.
The state NSCDC spokesman then urged members of the public to disregard the false information being spread on social media. It also appreciated the support and understanding of the general public in the matter, adding that further updates will be provided as necessary.
