Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) successfully repelled coordinated terrorist attacks across multiple locations in Borno and Yobe states.
The Nigerian Army stated on Thursday that between midnight and 4 a.m., terrorists launched simultaneous assaults on military positions in Dikwa, Mafa, Gajibo, and Katarko, located in Sector 1 (Borno) and Sector 2 (Yobe).
In every encounter, the troops held their ground, fought bravely, and professionally defeated the attackers, inflicting a “heavy, decisive, and bloody blow” on the terrorists.
The army noted that air support from the Air Component Command of OPHK enhanced the ground operations.
“The precision strikes, combined with enhanced battlefield awareness provided by Theatre Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) assets, gave our troops the leverage and momentum to respond with overwhelming force,” the statement read.
The joint ground and air operation neutralised over 50 terrorists across all locations, according to Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North East Operation HADIN KAI.
Troops recovered 38 AK-47 rifles, seven PKT machine guns, five RPG tubes, two GPMGs, hand grenades, and thousands of rounds of assorted ammunition.
“Over 70 wounded insurgents remain under pursuit by ground troops, supported closely by air units. Intelligence indicates that terrorists attacking Dikwa and Gajibo infiltrated from the Cameroon axis, while those targeting Katarko advanced from the Timbuktu Triangle, a known terrorist enclave,” the army revealed.
Several troops sustained injuries but are reported to be in stable condition. Some vehicles and buildings were also destroyed by fires caused by terrorists’ drones and RPGs, particularly in Mafa and Dikwa, where defensive lines were briefly breached.
The military high command commended the troops for their courage, determination, and renewed operational drive.
“Their steadfast performance reaffirms the military’s unwavering resolve and capacity to defend Nigeria’s territorial integrity, especially with the deployment of additional personnel and critical combat resources to the Theatre,” the army added.
