Five police officers were killed and two others injured on Sunday when suspected bandits ambushed a tactical team in Sabon Sara village, Darazo Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
The attack took place around 12:40 pm as personnel from the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Mobile Police 10 PMF Bauchi, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU), and the State Intelligence Department (SID) were conducting a visibility patrol intended to prevent and manage farmer–herder conflicts.
In a statement on Sunday, Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Ahmed Muhammed Wakil, confirmed the deaths of DSP Ahmad Muhammad (SID), ASP Mustapha Muhammad (10 PMF), Inspector Amarhel Yunusa (10 PMF), Inspector Idris Ahmed (10 PMF), and Corporal Isah Muazu (AKU).
He added that two officers, Inspector Isah Musa (SID) and Inspector Yusuf Gambo (SID), sustained injuries of varying degrees and were taken to Darazo General Hospital for treatment.
CSP Wakil said the Divisional Police Officer, SP Auwalu Ilu, led a reinforcement team to the scene to rescue the injured officers and evacuate the bodies of those killed. The remains of the fallen officers have been deposited at the morgue.
He also noted that efforts are ongoing to track down the attackers, assuring residents that the Command is committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu, visited the scene to assess the situation and express condolences to the families of the deceased officers. He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.
“The task has not been easy, but the Command remains fierce, tireless and relentless in its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of the people of Bauchi State,” Wakil added.
