A new bandit attack occurred on Monday evening in Isapa community, located in the Ekiti local government area of Kwara State, as the attackers attempted to abduct residents. However, local vigilantes who were already on alert successfully foiled the assault.

The community was said to have sent out a distress call to the state government, which promptly ordered soldiers stationed in Eruku to move in and provide support.

Sources revealed that none of the vigilantes sustained injuries as the attackers’ bullets reportedly failed to penetrate, and the bandits had been pushed back as of the time of reporting.

Isapa lies about five kilometres from Eruku, the town where three people were killed and 38 worshippers were abducted from a church last Tuesday.

The Treasurer of the Isapa Peoples Union (IPU), Mr. Abayomi Daramola, confirmed the incident in a phone interview with Vanguard on Monday evening.

“My people called me this evening to inform me of the bandits’ attack on our community, but thank God they weren’t able to abduct anyone.

“Our local vigilantes were up to the task as they engaged them in gunshots. SoS was sent to the state government which immediately directed soldiers in Eruku, which is just few miles away to reinforce.

“They have left the community as we speak,” Daramola said.
