The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has confirmed that three of its officers were killed in a recent assault carried out by gunmen believed to be members of the Lakurawa armed group in Bagudo Local Government Area of Kebbi State.

The gunmen reportedly attacked an NIS checkpoint at Bakin Ruwa late Thursday, shooting the officers on duty and later setting their patrol vehicle and duty post on fire.

According to sources, the ambush took place around midnight while the personnel were conducting routine operations.

“Last night, gunmen suspected to be Lakurawa attacked the Nigeria Immigration Service checkpoint in the Bakin Ruwa community of Bagudo LGA.

“They killed three NIS officers, set a patrol vehicle ablaze, and destroyed the shelter during the attack,” the source said.

Confirming the incident on Friday, the NIS Public Relations Officer, Akinsola Sheriff Akinlabi, condemned the killing, describing it as a tragic loss for the Service.

“It is sad and unfortunate that we lost these gallant men of the Service. The Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, and the entire officers and men of the Service commiserate with the families of these personnel who paid the supreme price in the line of their lawful duties,” he stated.
