President Bola Tinubu is currently in a closed-door meeting with the service chiefs and heads of various security agencies at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

The service chiefs were seen arriving at the Villa’s forecourt around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

This meeting is taking place less than three hours after Tinubu nominated the former Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa (retd.), to serve as Minister of Defence.

On Monday night, the former Minister of Defence, Abubakar Badaru, resigned from his position, just hours after Musa was observed at the Villa.

The security chiefs were led into the meeting by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede.

Others in attendance include the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General W. Shaibu; the Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Sunday Aneke; and the Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral I. Abbas.

Also present are the Chief of Defence Intelligence, Lt. General Akomaye Undiandeye; the Director-General of the Department of State Services, Oluwatosin Ajayi; and the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun.

Last Wednesday, Tinubu declared a nationwide security emergency following a surge in kidnappings and announced measures such as hiring 20,000 new police officers, deploying forest guards, and strengthening security in schools, churches, and mosques located in high-risk areas.

Our correspondent also observed the Abia State governor, Alex Otti, arriving at the President’s office.

Otti, wearing a grey knee-length traditional outfit, was seen holding a file of documents.

As at the time of filing this report, could not verify whether he was part of the security meeting or visiting for another purpose.

The Abia governor recently paid a visit to the convicted leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, at Sokoto prisons.
