Two Zamfara state lawmakers quit APC

Two members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly have stepped down from the All Progressives Congress (APC), attributing their decisions to ongoing internal crises and leadership issues within the party.

Shamsudeen Hassan Basko of Talata-Mafara North Constituency and Nura Dahiru of Birnin-Magaji Constituency communicated their exits in separate resignation letters dated December 3.

The Speaker, Bilyaminu Moriki, read both letters during the House sitting.

Hassan said his withdrawal was driven by persistent conflicts, internal rifts, ineffective leadership, and the marginalisation of members at state and local levels. He noted that remaining in the APC no longer aligned with his personal principles, political direction, or the needs of his constituents.

Dahiru explained that leaving the APC would give him room to pursue goals he believes better reflect the interests of the people he represents.

Both lawmakers acknowledged the opportunities they had while in the party and requested that their letters be recognised as formal notices of resignation.

After tendering his resignation, Dahiru officially declared his move to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Zamfara State.
