Bauchi Govt clears air on Gov Bala’s defection to PRP

The Bauchi State government has debunked claims that Governor Bala Mohammed is planning to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).

In a strongly worded statement, the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, dismissed the story as entirely untrue, describing it as ‘a product of its author imagination.’

“Our attention has been drawn to a mischievous statement credited to the Bauchi State Publicity Secretary of the PRP, alleging that Governor Bala Mohammed is not welcome to join the party,” Gidado said. “Ordinarily, such a baseless remark would be ignored as the outburst of an attention seeker. However, silence in the face of falsehood can be misread as acceptance.”

He stressed that Governor Mohammed has never contemplated leaving the PDP, let alone reaching out to the PRP. According to him, the governor remains firmly committed to the PDP, where he serves as chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum.

Gidado noted that Governor Mohammed has been at the forefront of efforts to stabilise the party amid what he described as attempts by “anti-democratic forces” to push Nigeria toward a one-party system. He added that Bala Mohammed’s political strength is evident in his victories over the PRP in two previous elections.

Gidado added that while Governor Mohammed has the constitutional right to make future political decisions, such choices would not be influenced by “political turncoats thriving on falsehood and malice.”
