Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has reiterated his administration’s firm commitment to financial discipline, stressing that careful and responsible management of public funds remains a cornerstone of his leadership.

He revealed that before the period of emergency rule, more than ₦300 billion had been set aside in the state’s treasury, adding that upon his return, the balance had risen to about ₦600 billion.

Fubara assured that within the next six months, his government would provide clear and verifiable details showing how public funds are being utilised.

The governor made this known while commissioning the 14.2-kilometre Obodhi–Ozochi Road, a major route connecting previously neglected communities in Ahoada East and Ahoada West Local Government Areas.

He dismissed claims and misconceptions about the handling of state finances, attributing some of the criticism to his deliberate approach of executing projects without elaborate public flag-off ceremonies.

Fubara noted that beyond the projects currently being commissioned, several other impactful initiatives are ongoing across Rivers State.

He maintained that his administration’s track record on accountability and fiscal management remains solid, insisting that its transparency cannot be genuinely questioned.

The governor emphasised that all available resources are being channelled solely toward the development of the state and the welfare of its people, adding that the visible progress across Rivers serves as evidence of responsible governance.

According to him, the Obodhi–Ozochi Road project was initially conceived by his predecessor, Nyesom Wike, as part of efforts to mobilise political support during the 2023 general elections through a former lawmaker and his then Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie.

Fubara said Ehie successfully carried out the assignment, making it necessary not only to complete the project but also to expand it beyond its original scope.

As a result, the road was extended by an additional 4.2 kilometres, increasing its total length to 14.2 kilometres.

The governor also immediately approved the community’s request for the construction of internal roads.

He further urged Edison Ehie to translate the large turnout recorded at the commissioning ceremony into sustained political backing for President Bola Tinubu, noting that such support would significantly strengthen the President’s reelection efforts.
