The Jigawa State Police Command has announced a complete prohibition on the sale, possession, and use of fireworks, knockouts, and pili cards throughout the Christmas and New Year festivities.
The directive was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday in Dutse by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam.
“The Command has decided to prohibit the use of fireworks due to security and safety risks, which often trigger public panic, cause injuries, and damage property,” Adam said, emphasising the need for caution.
Adam, who explained that the ban aims to protect vulnerable groups, especially children, the elderly, and individuals with health issues, who may be affected by loud explosive sounds, added that “these groups are particularly at risk, and we urge everyone to take necessary precautions.”
The PPRO urged parents and guardians to warn their wards to adhere to the directive, saying, “It’s crucial to keep children and vulnerable individuals safe during this period.”
He also noted that “Anyone found contravening this order will be arrested and prosecuted without hesitation.”
According to him, the police command has deployed personnel to strategic locations, including markets, churches, and public gatherings, to enforce the ban and ensure compliance.
”Our officers are on high alert, and we will ensure strict enforcement,” he assured.
He, therefore, urged the public to report suspicious activities or individuals attempting to sell or use fireworks to the nearest security outfit.”Your cooperation is vital in making our celebrations safe and enjoyable.
“We are committed to maintaining law and order during the festive period, and we will not compromise on safety,” adding that the command is working closely with other security agencies.
Highlighting further, the Jigawa police mouthpiece disclosed that the ban covers the entire state, with strict enforcement measures in place, including checkpoints and patrols.
“We will leave no stone unturned in ensuring compliance,” Adam stressed.
Moreso, the Jigawa police command wish Christians and residents a peaceful Christmas and New Year, hoping that the celebrations will be joyful and incident-free.
“We urge everyone to cooperate with us to achieve this goal,” Adam said.
The PPRO also emphasised the need for public cooperation with security agencies, saying, “Together, we can make a difference and ensure a safe holiday season for all.”

Recall that the Police Command in Anambra State banned the use of knockout bangers and other social explosives during the Christmas and New Year celebrations in Anambra.
