The Accord Party has reported a sharp increase in nationwide membership following the defection of Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, to the party, describing the development as a major boost ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
The party’s National Chairman, Maxwell Mgbudem, made this known on Tuesday at a press briefing at Accord’s national secretariat in Abuja, where he also moved to counter allegations of division within the party.
“Since His Excellency, Senator Ademola Adeleke, joined Accord along with his political associates and supporters, our party has experienced tremendous national acceptance. Thousands of Nigerians have joined and identified with Accord across the country, a testament to Governor Adeleke’s political influence and national appeal,” Mgbudem said.
According to him, Adeleke’s defection and the wave of supporters that followed have greatly enhanced the party’s visibility nationwide and strengthened its standing within Nigeria’s democratic space.
Mgbudem also responded to recent issues involving the party’s former presidential candidate, Christopher Imumolen, who has since been expelled.
He accused Imumolen of spreading false information and laying claim to leadership roles within the party in a bid to remain politically relevant.
“It is laughable that Mr. Imumolen would arrogate to himself positions he never held, nor was appointed to or elected for. His claims are a mirage in his imagination and an insult to the good people of Osun State, who witnessed the emergence of Governor Adeleke as the duly nominated Accord candidate in the governorship primaries,” he said.
The national chairman stressed that Accord remains united and stable as it prepares for future elections, rejecting suggestions of internal crisis.
“I state categorically that Accord is the most peaceful, united, and fastest-growing political party in Nigeria today. There is no faction at any level of leadership. We will not be distracted by anti-democratic forces seeking personal gain through cheap publicity,” Mgbudem added.
