The National Executive Council (NEC) of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN) has announced the appointment of Mr Sydney Sparrow as its National President.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by PMAN’s National Treasurer, Mr Baba Ojonugwa, and made available to journalists in Owerri on Friday.

Ojonugwa explained that Sparrow’s nomination and appointment followed the suspension of the association’s former President, Mr Pretty Okafor.

According to him, the decision was taken at an emergency NEC meeting held on the night of December 25, 2025, to address what he described as serious governance and constitutional issues within the association.

“The decision was reached at an emergency NEC meeting convened on the night of Dec. 25, 2025, to address serious governance and constitutional concerns affecting the association.

“Acting in line with the powers vested in it by the PMAN Constitution, the NEC resolved to suspend the President pending the outcome of a full investigation and disciplinary process,” Ojonugwa said.

He noted that the NEC’s action was informed by alleged repeated violations of constitutional provisions, abuse of office, disregard for due process, and conduct deemed harmful to the welfare, credibility, and integrity of PMAN.

Ojonugwa added that the council also resolved to nullify all unilateral appointments, reinstate the National Treasurer, initiate a forensic audit of PMAN accounts and joint venture agreements, and appoint an Acting President in accordance with the association’s constitution.

“In the meantime, Sydney Sparrow, PMAN Governor, FCT, has been nominated as the Acting National President of PMAN National,” he said.

He assured PMAN members across the country that the measures were corrective rather than punitive, while reaffirming the NEC’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and the protection of the interests of Nigerian musicians.
