The national working committee (NWC) of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has rejected the suspension of Hashimu Dungurawa, the party’s Kano State chairman.
On Monday, executive members of the NNPP’s Gargari ward in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area announced the suspension and removal of Dungurawa, accusing him of fuelling division within the party and encouraging internal crises.
Dungurawa is a known ally of Rabiu Kwankwaso, former governor of Kano State and national leader of the NNPP.
On Tuesday, the party’s state executive committee in Kano named Abdullahi Abiya as acting NNPP chairman.
However, in a statement, NNPP spokesperson Ladipo Johnson faulted the action, describing Dungurawa’s suspension as “misplaced, undemocratic, null, void and of no effect whatsoever”.
“Their action indeed amounts to a gross anti-party activity as it violates the extant provisions of the Party’s constitution,” the statement said.
Johnson further described Dungurawa as a “conscientious, hardworking, and dutiful chairman whose leadership and performance over time have been remarkable and contributed to the progress” of the party in Kano State.
