As the Super Eagles prepare for their round-of-16 encounter with Mozambique at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, Victor Osimhen was one of three players who did not take part in the team’s New Year’s Day training.
Ryan Alebiosu and Cyriel Dessers were the other absentees from the session. Head coach Eric Chelle revealed that Thursday’s workout was held behind closed doors and acknowledged the missing players.
Alebiosu and Dessers are both nursing injuries and are not expected to be available for the match against Mozambique.
Osimhen’s absence, however, was said to be precautionary, with the coaching crew opting to rest him as part of a structured load-management plan to ensure he remains in top condition.
Nigeria are aiming to extend their strong showing in Morocco, and there is optimism that Osimhen will spearhead the attack if he is cleared to play against the Southern African opponents.
