Funke Akindele makes history as “Behind The Scenes” becomes 2025’s highest-grossing Nollywood film

Multi-award-winning actress and producer Funke Akindele has set a new milestone with her latest movie, “Behind The Scenes,” which has emerged as the highest-grossing Nollywood film of 2025, raking in N1.767 billion in just under four weeks.

The film’s distributor, FilmOne Entertainment, had earlier revealed that “Behind The Scenes” shattered five opening-weekend records, including the highest single-day box office haul on Boxing Day, when it earned N129.5 million.

Reacting to the latest achievement, the distributor shared a celebratory message, stating: “Celebrating yet another incredible milestone and we’re so sure we wouldn’t have done this without you and your love.

“Behind The Scenes hits a whopping N1.77B also standing as the Number 1 film of the weekend. Thank you to everyone for the love and support so far”.

Akindele’s remarkable box office consistency has further cemented her reputation as one of Nollywood’s most formidable figures.

This marks her third film to cross the N1 billion mark, following “A Tribe Called Judah” and “Everybody Loves Jenifa,” which went on to record Nollywood’s biggest opening weekend and become the highest-grossing Nollywood film of all time, respectively.

The strong performance of the movie has been linked to its advanced screenings on December 10 and 11, which helped generate widespread anticipation ahead of its nationwide cinema release on December 12.

“Behind The Scenes” features an ensemble cast that includes Scarlet Gomez, Iyabo Ojo, Destiny Etiko, Tobi Bakre, and Uche Montana, among others.
