The Kaduna State Police Command has announced that it successfully thwarted an attack by armed bandits in Giwa Local Government Area, neutralising two suspects and recovering firearms.

The Command said the operation was based on credible intelligence indicating a planned attack on Idisu village, Idisu ward of Bayan Kogi.

According to the spokesperson of the Kaduna State Police Command, DSP Mansir Hassan, intelligence reports showed that the bandits, led by a notorious kingpin identified as Kachalla Sanusi Bajira, were mobilising to storm the community after residents failed to pay an illegal levy imposed on them.

He explained that upon receiving the information, the Commissioner of Police immediately ordered operatives of the anti-kidnapping unit, in collaboration with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, to move into the area.

Upon arrival, the operatives encountered the bandits who had set up an ambush and opened fire, leading to a gun battle with the security team.

The police operatives overpowered the attackers, killing two of them, while the remaining suspects fled into nearby bushes.

During the operation, two firearms and five rounds of live ammunition were recovered.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Muhammad, praised the operatives for their courage and professionalism, assuring residents of the Command’s resolve to sustain intelligence-led operations against banditry, kidnapping, and other violent crimes.

He further warned criminal elements that Kaduna State will not serve as a safe haven for criminal activities.
