The Lagos State Government has announced the start of Year 2026 e-registration and payment for the Basic Education Certificate Examination for public and private junior secondary schools across the state.

The exercise will run from Monday, January 26 to Friday, March 27, 2026, and is being coordinated by the Lagos State Examinations Board. It is designed to provide a seamless, technology-driven registration process that removes the need for physical interaction between school owners and the board, while promoting transparency, efficiency, and accountability in the examination process.

The announcement was made in a statement posted on the state government’s official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday.

“The Lagos State Government, through the Lagos State Examinations Board, has announced the commencement of Year 2026 e-Registration and Payment of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). The exercise is scheduled to begin on Monday, 26th January 2026 and end on Friday, 27th March 2026,” the statement said.

The government noted that the initiative supports its policy of leveraging technology to streamline examination procedures and eliminate the need for school owners to be physically present at the board.

Speaking on the process, the Registrar of the Lagos State Examinations Board, Adebayo Orunsolu, emphasized that schools must use the newly issued School Code for registration.

“Public Junior Secondary Schools are to download the Offline Data Capturing Application via bece.examsboard.lagosstate.gov.ng,” he said.

He added that approved private junior secondary schools, schools operating with special permission, and continuing education centres should access the board’s portal at pay.examsboard.com.ng to complete registration and payment, and to generate login credentials.

“Approved private junior secondary schools and approved public continuing education centres will pay a registration fee of ₦10,000 per candidate, while junior secondary schools with special permission and private CECs are to pay ₦15,000 per candidate,” he explained.

The registrar also urged schools presenting candidates with special needs to notify the board in advance.

“Schools presenting candidates with special needs, including visual challenges or albinism, are advised to notify the Lagos State Examinations Board in writing to ensure adequate preparations before the commencement of the examination,” he said.

He further warned that late registration could attract penalties and noted that any additional information required will be communicated to schools through their respective zonal officers.
