169

Everything is in place for the formal assumption of control of the Labour Party (LP) National Secretariat by Senator Nenadi Usman, widely regarded as the first woman to head a major political party in the country.

The secretariat, situated in Abuja’s Utako District, had previously been under the control of the Julius Abure–led faction until the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recently gave official recognition to Usman and her leadership team.

In preparation for the takeover ceremony, banners displaying images of Usman alongside the Acting National Secretary, Senator Darlington Nwochocha, have already been mounted around the premises, signalling the dawn of a new phase for the party.
