Lagos State Wastewater Management Office has sealed a public toilet in Ijora Olopa and a property in Coker-Aguda, Surulere, over environmental pollution and the improper discharge of wastewater.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the agency disclosed that the public toilet at Ijora Olopa, via Nipost, was shut down on February 24, 2026, for the “deliberate discharge of raw sewage and wastewater into the environment via pumping machine,” describing the act as “public nuisance, environmental pollution and endangering human health.”
It explained that the move forms part of its mandate to protect public health and curb environmental degradation across Lagos State.
The agency also sealed a property at 22b Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, Coker Market Road, Coker-Aguda, Surulere, after receiving complaints about the “persistent discharge of untreated wastewater into the environment.” The statement noted that investigations confirmed the situation was “creating significant health and environmental hazards.”
In related developments, Lagos authorities arrested 46 individuals for open defecation, while Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo visited the Lagos airport over a fire incident at the old terminal and called for heightened vigilance. Meanwhile, Ebonyi State commended the World Bank and pledged to sustain its health programme.
The LSWMO stressed that breaches of wastewater regulations would not be condoned, warning that “any act of environmental nuisance will attract appropriate sanctions and possible prosecution” in line with state laws.
It further urged residents to “adopt proper wastewater management and hygiene practices to support public health and promote environmental sustainability,” noting that adherence is essential to prevent avoidable health risks.
Members of the public were encouraged to report violations through its official hotlines — 08022022397 and 07025332163 — or via its social media platforms.
