APC swears in state, LG executives after consensus elections

Some earlier ward, local government, and state congresses were not entirely free from disputes, prompting a few members to seek legal redress, the APC national leadership stressed that all elected officials must be formally sworn in.

A statement read in part: “The All Progressives Congress hereby directs that the Ward, Local Government and State Executive Committees duly elected at the 2026 Congresses of the Party be sworn in/inaugurated today or soon hereafter in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Party’s Constitution. Our great party wishes to thank all members, stakeholders, and supporters for the peaceful conduct of congresses around the country. Congratulations to all.”

Across most states, consensus mode was adopted for the state congresses, producing new executive councils comprising both returning and new executives.

In Lagos, APC State Chairman Cornelius Ojelabi was returned for another four-year term. Ojelabi and other executives emerged through a consensus arrangement at the state congress held at the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium, Onikan, Lagos, on Tuesday.

The congress, attended by 1,705 delegates from 376 wards in Lagos State, saw the Chairman of the State Congress Committee, Stella Okotete, read out the consensus list, followed by a call for voice affirmation.

Other executives elected include Moshood Olanrewaju (Deputy Chairman), Adeola Jokomba (Secretary), Azizat Mariam (Assistant Secretary), Seye Oladejo (Publicity Secretary), Babajide Sunday (Vice Chairman), Shola Eletu (Woman Leader), and Ayodele Adewale (Organising Secretary).

The event was witnessed by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, Speaker of the State Assembly Mudasiru Obasa, Leader of the Governor’s Advisory Council Tajudeen Olusi, and Secretary to the State Government Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin. Former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, governorship aspirant Olajide Adediran, and former Senator Ganiyu Solomon were also present.

Governor Sanwo-Olu urged the new executives to ensure that the state chapter of the party becomes a reference point for other states in terms of inclusivity, fairness, and equity. He said the party, conducting primaries via consensus, had demonstrated unity of purpose and high standards, adding that the party remains supreme.

Re-elected chairman Ojelabi reaffirmed the party’s commitment to inclusivity. He noted that the forthcoming elections would test party unity, urging members to strengthen ties and ensure no voice is left unheard.

In Oyo, former Deputy Governor Moses Alake Adeyemo was elected APC State Chairman. His emergence was ratified at the state congress held at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Oke Ado, Ibadan, following recommendations by the party’s ad hoc zoning committee.

The congress, attended by party leaders and stakeholders including former Senate Leader Teslim Folarin, Florence Ajimobi, Senator Ayo Adeseun, and Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle, also affirmed other executives such as Taofeek Lamidi (Deputy Chairman), Fatai Adesina (Secretary), Lukman Owonikoko (Assistant Secretary), Joshua Oyebamiji (Oyo Central Senatorial Chairman), Mojeed Delesolu (Oyo South Senatorial Chairman), Tunde Oloyede (Oyo North Senatorial Chairman), and Aborisade Sunday (Legal Adviser).

Adeyemo highlighted cohesion, grassroots mobilisation, and the party’s readiness for electoral success.

In Kwara, APC Chairman Sunday Fagbemi was re-elected at the state congress held at the Arca Santa Arena, Ilorin, with delegates from all 16 local government areas in attendance. Fagbemi pledged to consolidate the party’s achievements and strengthen its democratic hold ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“I do not take this privilege for granted. I take it as a new assignment to coordinate all efforts and strategies to consolidate the development and democratic hold of our party in Kwara State in the coming elections,” he said, urging unity among party leaders and members.

In Gombe, Mohammed Ndus was elected as state chairman. Speaking after their affirmation at the party congress, Ndus described the exercise as a milestone for the party in the state. A retired civil servant with 36 years of service, Ndus thanked Governor Muhammadu Yahaya for his leadership and pledged that the new executive would operate with unity and inclusiveness.

“We shall work as a united team to foster inclusiveness, deepen party cohesion, and secure victories for the APC at all levels in future elections,” Ndus said.

Earlier, Chairman of the Gombe State APC Congress Committee, Dr Danjuma Dabo, presented the executives for affirmation, noting that all aspirants had been screened by the party’s national committee with no petitions or appeals.

In Delta, Solomon Arenyeka emerged as State Chairman. Arenyeka, previously a PDP state chairman, led members who defected to APC in 2025 under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori. Other executives include Iduh (Deputy Chairman), Efe Uko (Secretary), Paulinus Akpeki (Delta Central Chairman), Emmanuel Amgbaduba (Delta South Chairman), Daniel Ossai (Delta North Chairman), Emmanuel Egbabor (State Organising Secretary), Valentine Onojeghuo (State Publicity Secretary), Ifeyinwa Sobotie (State Woman Leader), and Christopher Agali (State Youth Leader).

Former Senator Emmanuel Anosike was elected chairman in Anambra State through a consensus arrangement. Chief Chidi Orji was named Vice Chairman, and Obi Okpala as Secretary. Anosike described his election as a call to service and pledged inclusivity, adding: “We shall ensure that all members are carried along in the affairs of the party. I assure all party faithful that this marks a new dawn for the APC in Anambra State. As a party, we are committed to delivering President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.”

In Edo, delegates from 192 wards endorsed Jarrett Tenebe as party chairman for another four-year term through unanimous voice affirmation, with the executive supporting President Tinubu, Governor Okpebholo, and former Governor Adams Oshiomhole for a second Senate term.

In Kebbi, Abubakar Kana-Zuru was re-elected APC State Chairman through consensus at Goru Bulasa. Other executives include Alhaji Ado-Mudi Augie (Vice Chairman), Alhaji Saidu Muhammad-Kimba (Secretary), Alhaji Sahabi Lolo (Assistant Secretary), Alhaji Abubakar Bunza (Treasurer), Hajiya A’isha Gunabi (State Women Leader), Hajiya Jamila Baba (Assistant Women Leader), Isah Assalafi (Public Relations Officer), and Lukman Yauri (Assistant PRO).

In Bayelsa, former State Assembly member Warman Ogoriba emerged as chairman at Gabriel Okara Cultural Centre. Governor Douye Diri urged the executives to prioritise unity and reconciliation and strengthen the party structure in support of the Tinubu administration.

In Plateau, Rufus Bature, former Secretary to the Plateau State Government, was returned as chairman through consensus at the Jos congress.

Katsina elected Bashir Saulawa as State Chairman and Bala Abu Musawa as Deputy Chairman, with zonal vice chairmen appointed for Funtua, Katsina, and Daura zones.

Imo State elected Austin Onyedebelu as chairman and Onyekachi Ibezim as secretary, while Ogun State returned Yemi Sanusi as chairman for another four-year term.

Enugu State elected Dr Martin Chukwunwike as chairman, with Governor Peter Mbah describing it as a “model of democracy.”

Abia State elected former lawmaker Chijioke Chukwu as chairman. Deputy Speaker Ben Kalu urged unity and pledged support ahead of the 2027 elections.

Sokoto adopted consensus with Haruna Adiya affirmed as State Chairman, alongside Yahya Buhari (Deputy), Bello Abdullahi (Secretary), and Abubakar Wada (Assistant Secretary).

In Benue, factions loyal to Governor Hyacinth Alia and SGF Senator George Akume produced parallel executives. The SGF faction returned Austin Agada’s working committee, while Governor Alia’s faction produced Benjamin Omale.
