The Senate of the Federal University Dutse (FUD) in Jigawa State has approved the expulsion of 20 students and the rustication of 15 others for their involvement in examination malpractice.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Abdullahi Yahaya-Bello, the university’s Director of Public Affairs, said the decision followed the recommendations of the Senate Committee on Examination Misconduct for the second semester of the 2024/2025 academic session.
Yahaya-Bello added that the Senate also cleared two students of wrongdoing and issued written warnings to three others.
“The decision was in accordance with the categories of offences and punishments governing both the undergraduate and postgraduate studies, and those affected were drawn from various faculties and departments of the university,” the statement reads.
In February, the University of Abuja (UniAbuja) also took similar disciplinary action, expelling 28 students over various offences, including alleged examination malpractice, cultism and result falsification.
In a statement, Habib Yakoob, Acting Director of Information, said the expulsion followed the consideration of the report and recommendations of the Student Disciplinary Committee (SDC) at the university’s Senate meeting.
On Tuesday, the University of Calabar (UNICAL) also suspended nine students over examination malpractice and the forgery of results.
In a statement, Chukwuka Icha, the university registrar, said the decision to suspend the students was reached at the 252nd Senate meeting, following reports presented by the ad hoc Senate Committee on Examination Malpractice and the Senate Students’ Disciplinary Committee.
