UEFA takes action against Real Madrid over fan’s offensive gesture at Bernabeu against Benfica
UEFA has issued an official disciplinary ruling regarding the inappropriate behaviour that occurred during the Champions League match between Real Madrid and Benfica at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Although Real Madrid publicly condemned their fans’ actions during the Benfica match, UEFA has imposed disciplinary sanctions on the club.
The Control, Ethics, and Discipline committee ordered a suspended, one-match partial closure of the Santiago Bernabeu due to “racist and/or discriminatory behaviour.”
The official statement specified that the closure will affect a 500-seat section near the lower south stand.
The ban will only be enforced if a similar incident occurs within the next 12 months. Alongside the suspended stadium closure, Los Blancos have been fined €15,000 immediately.
