IBEDC confirms epileptic power supply across network, gives reasons

The Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company Plc has explained that persistent power outages across its network are mainly due to gas supply shortages to generating plants and inconsistent energy allocation from the national grid.

In a statement released on Saturday in Ibadan, IBEDC acknowledged the significant inconvenience caused to customers and appealed for patience, assuring continued engagement with communities while intensifying efforts to resolve the situation.

The management explained that “the current supply constraints being experienced across parts of its network are largely linked to challenges affecting power generation and supply on the national grid.”

It added that “gas supply shortages to power generating plants have reduced generation capacity nationwide, resulting in increased load shedding across our network. At the same time, electricity demand within the IBEDC franchise has risen considerably in recent months, particularly following the addition of more Band A feeders in line with regulatory directives.”

Despite the growing demand, the company noted, energy allocation from the national grid has remained unstable and subject to periodic declines, widening the gap between supply and customer needs.

“As a result of these constraints, some communities within our franchise are experiencing supply shortfalls. We fully understand the frustration this has generated among our customers, and we sincerely apologise for the disruption to homes, businesses, and economic activities,” the statement said.

The management revealed that the situation has sparked protests in some areas and urged residents to engage constructively rather than resort to confrontation. “We recognise the right of customers to express their concerns. IBEDC has been actively engaging community leaders and stakeholders across our coverage areas to foster mutual understanding of the situation and to work together towards sustainable solutions,” it added.

IBEDC further assured customers that it is working with relevant stakeholders in the power sector to restore grid stability, improve energy allocation, and enhance electricity supply across its network.
