Antonin Kinsky has thanked supporters for their encouragement after a difficult performance in Tottenham Hotspur’s 5–2 defeat to Atletico Madrid in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League clash on Tuesday.

The 22-year-old goalkeeper endured a tough start and was substituted after just 17 minutes with Spurs already trailing 3–0. His mistakes contributed to Atletico’s first and third goals before he was taken off.

Kinsky was comforted by teammates as he left the pitch, while Spurs manager Igor Tudor later addressed the decision during his post-match briefing.

Taking to Instagram on Wednesday, the Czech international thanked fans for their support, writing: “Thanks for the messages. From dream to nightmare to dream again. See you.”

Tudor explained that the early substitution was intended to protect both the goalkeeper and the team during a difficult moment in the match.

“It was necessary to preserve the guy and preserve the team. Before the game, it was the right choice to make in the moment we were in – pressure on Vicario, another competition, and Toni is a very good goalkeeper. Afterward, it’s easy to say it was not the right decision. I explained to Toni after the match that he is the right guy and a good goalkeeper. Unfortunately, these mistakes happened in this big game,” Tudor said.

The result leaves Tottenham facing a daunting challenge in the return leg as they attempt to overturn a three-goal deficit to keep their Champions League hopes alive.
