The governor of Kano state, Abba Yusuf, has cautioned members of the state executive council against disloyalty, internal rivalry and leaking of official government information.

In a statement on Thursday, Sunusi Bature, the governor’s spokesperson, said the warning was delivered during the 38th executive council meeting, stressing that such conduct would no longer be tolerated.

The development follows the dismissal of Abdullahi Musa, the state’s head of service.

The governor subsequently appointed Bilkisu Maimota in an acting capacity, urging her to foster discipline, unity and professionalism within the civil service.

Bature also confirmed that five commissioners have resigned from Yusuf’s cabinet since the governor’s defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

At his formal reception into the APC, Yusuf said that his decision to join the ruling party was necessary to position the state at the centre of national decision-making and to secure a better future for residents.

He described the move as one guided by responsibility rather than personal ambition, explaining that it would allow the state to actively engage with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu and accelerate development through stronger cooperation with the federal government.

Bature said the five commissioners declined to follow Yusuf to the APC and later stepped down from their positions.

“Five commissioners had resigned following the political realignment. Four of them stepped down after declining to join the move to the APC,” the statement added.

“The affected ministries include Humanitarian Affairs, Youth, Internal Security and Special Duties.”

Bature stated that the governor accepted their resignations and wished the former officials success in their future pursuits.

“Governor Yusuf explained that recent political developments informed his decision, alongside key stakeholders, to align with the APC in the interest of the state’s development and stronger collaboration with the federal government,” Bature said.

The governor also urged the remaining cabinet members to stay united and remain focused on advancing the administration’s goals for Kano’s development.
