No fewer than 20 motorists have been convicted for various traffic offences by the Federal Road Safety Corps in Ogun State.

The offenders were convicted during the Phase II sitting of the FRSC Mobile Court held at the Itori Unit Command and presided over by Chief Magistrate O. T. Odunsaya.

In a statement issued on Friday by the Corps Public Relations Officer, Odunsi Afolabi, the motorists were charged with several violations, including overloading, excessive speeding and other traffic-related offences.

Afolabi revealed that all the offenders were found guilty by the court, with none discharged during the proceedings.

According to him, “A total of 20 offenders were arraigned and subsequently convicted. Forty offences were recorded during the exercise, out of which 39 attracted various fines, while none of the offenders was sentenced to imprisonment.”

He explained that the enforcement exercise targeted key safety violations such as failure to install speed limit devices, overloading, non-use of seat belts, driver’s licence offences, tyre violations, vehicle licence and number plate irregularities, as well as poor vehicle maintenance.

Speaking during the session, the Ogun Sector Commander of the FRSC, Corps Commander Akinwunmi Fasakin, said the mobile court initiative forms part of the command’s ongoing enforcement strategy to strengthen compliance with traffic regulations.

Fasakin added that the exercise also enhances the corps’ operational visibility and serves as a deterrent against reckless driving on major roads across the state.

He commended the orderly conduct of the proceedings and acknowledged the security support provided by armed personnel throughout the exercise.

The sector commander urged motorists to cultivate safe driving habits and ensure their vehicles have proper documentation to prevent avoidable crashes, injuries and deaths.

He also reiterated the corps’ commitment to prosecuting traffic offenders whose actions endanger the lives of other road users.
