Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has ordered all political appointees who want to run for elective offices in the 2027 general elections to resign by March 31, 2026.

The directive was made public in a statement by the Secretary to the State Government, Kingsley Emu, who said the move complies with Section 88(1) of the Electoral Act, 2026, and the timetable issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission for party primaries.

The statement said the order covers every category of political appointee planning to take part in party primaries or seek any elective position.

Those listed include commissioners, advisers, directors-general, executive assistants, senior special assistants, special assistants, personal assistants to the governor, and other political office holders in the state.

It added that all affected officials are expected to submit their resignation letters through the Office of the Secretary to the State Government on or before the deadline.

The government also directed departing appointees to hand over to the Permanent Secretary or the most senior career officer in their Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

The statement called on all affected persons to fully comply with the directive.
