The Ondo State Police Command has reported that a woman successfully foiled a suspected child abduction in Ogbagi Akoko, leading to the arrest of two suspects by vigilant community members.

In a statement on Wednesday signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the command said the incident occurred on March 22, 2026, following a report by Mrs. Olanireti ‘F’.

The statement explained that the complainant had sent her three-year-old son, Alex Ayobami ‘M’, to his grandmother when a concerned resident noticed suspicious activity involving the child and raised the alarm.

The suspects, identified as Adefarati Idowu ‘M’ and Adepoju Babatunde ‘M’, were intercepted while attempting to flee on an unregistered Bajaj motorcycle with the child.

The child’s grandmother, Mrs. Olawale ‘F’, held onto the motorcycle, while other residents mobilized to prevent the suspects from escaping, resulting in their arrest.

“The child was successfully rescued unhurt,” the statement said, emphasizing that the suspects were apprehended through the combined efforts of community members and the police.

The command noted that the case has been transferred to the headquarters for “discreet and thorough investigation”, with efforts underway to determine if a wider criminal network is involved.

The Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, praised the community for its vigilance and quick response, highlighting the importance of community policing and citizen support for security agencies.

The command urged parents and guardians to remain watchful and encouraged the public to report any suspicious activity. It reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and pledged ongoing efforts to curb criminal activities across the state.
