The Eagle Square in Abuja, set to host the 2026 national convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC), is already bustling with activity ahead of the event scheduled to commence on Friday, March 27, 2026.

The venue has been fully adorned in the party’s colours — red, green, white, and blue — signalling readiness for the major gathering.

Party flags have also been mounted across the arena, fluttering in the bright yet breezy morning conditions.

Designated polling areas have been arranged with clearly marked pavilions allocated to each state.

Security presence is heavy, with operatives from the police, Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), alongside other paramilitary agencies, deployed to maintain order.

Members of the Convention Venue Committee, led by Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, were observed supervising and inspecting the final stages of preparation.

Access routes leading to Eagle Square have been cordoned off, with security personnel stationed at key points.

Vehicular movement has been restricted, forcing many residents within the Federal Capital Territory to walk to their workplaces.

According to party officials, more than 8,000 delegates from all 36 states and the FCT are expected to attend the convention.

They will be led by President Bola Tinubu, alongside 31 governors and members of the federal cabinet.

The APC has also indicated that it will adopt a consensus method in selecting its leadership, which it says reflects unity and organisational discipline within the party.

Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, outlined the plans and expectations for the convention slated for March 27 and 28.

Idris, who also serves as Co-Chairman of the convention’s Media and Publicity Committee, detailed arrangements covering logistics, readiness, and communication strategy.

He urged committee members to work collaboratively to ensure smooth coordination and successful execution of the event.

“A lot of sacrifice is expected from all, in line with the party’s vision for a united and disciplined approach to communicating to Nigerians,” he said.

He further emphasised the need for party members to uphold strong democratic values.

“As party members, we must reflect a significant attribute of our president,” Idris added.

He described the convention as a significant milestone in strengthening the APC’s internal structures and democratic processes.
