The Airport Police Command has unveiled plans to commemorate fallen officers during the National Police Day 2026 celebrations, themed “Community Partnership: Building Trust.”
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Airport Police Command, Assistant Superintendent of Police Mohammed Adeola, disclosed in a post on X on Friday that the event will also provide an opportunity to strengthen relationships with the public and build trust within the aviation community and beyond.
A lineup of activities has been arranged for the celebration, starting on Monday, March 30, with a sanitation and environmental cleanup exercise, followed by a walkathon on Tuesday, March 31. On Wednesday, April 1, the Command will conduct public awareness campaigns, engaging drivers and other key stakeholders within the airport environment.
On Thursday, April 2, families of deceased officers will be recognised with the presentation of cheques in honour of the sacrifices made by the fallen heroes. The celebrations will conclude on Tuesday, April 7, at Eagle Square, Abuja, with a grand finale featuring a ceremonial parade, tactical demonstrations, and other displays showcasing police professionalism.
Speaking ahead of the event, the Commissioner of Police, Airport Police Command, Ogunbode Olufunke, said:
“National Police Day gives us the opportunity not only to honor the heroes who have laid down their lives in service but also to inspire a new generation of police officers committed to professionalism and community service.”
She added, “Our engagement with the public is central to effective policing. Through these celebrations, we hope to strengthen the trust and partnership between the Airport Police Command and the communities we serve.”
The Command noted that all planned activities are in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, to strengthen community partnership and boost public confidence in the Nigeria Police Force.
“We are fully prepared to participate actively in the National Police Day events.
“This is our chance to demonstrate commitment, honor our heroes, and reinforce the values of service and trust that guide our work every day,” Ogunbode concluded.
