Tension gripped Akungba-Akoko over the weekend after a tipper truck reportedly killed a nine-year-old girl in a tragic accident.
According to credible sources, the incident happened at Supare Junction along Supare Road, leaving residents in shock and mourning.
Eyewitnesses stated that the child was hit by the truck, an incident that triggered anger within the community.
It was gathered that the victim was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for medical attention but was later pronounced dead by health officials.
Responding to the development, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, Jimoh Abayomi, confirmed the incident on Sunday, revealing that the victim, identified as Fatima Ibrahim, was struck by an unregistered Mercedes-Benz tipper truck.
He added that the driver has been taken into custody, while the vehicle involved has been seized for inspection as part of an ongoing investigation.
The police also extended condolences to the bereaved family and advised motorists to adhere strictly to traffic regulations to avoid similar incidents.
