Former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, has dismissed reports alleging that the German government rejected his appointment as an ambassador-designate.
The Peoples Gazette had earlier reported on Monday that his diplomatic posting was turned down due to alleged ethnic and religious slurs.
Recall that President Bola Tinubu had approved Fani-Kayode’s nomination as an ambassador-designate to a Central European country.
However, the online publication claimed that German authorities rejected his posting on March 13, 2026, citing concerns over his “erratic behaviour” and “controversial past statements, particularly his divisive ethnocentric, tribalistic, and religious fundamentalist comments in Nigeria,” which were described as “destabilising.”
The report further alleged that a senior government official suggested he could be reassigned to South Africa.
Reacting in a post on his official X handle on Monday, Fani-Kayode rejected the claims, describing them as false and politically motivated.
He accused opposition figures of being behind the report and said they were unhappy with his appointment.
The former minister insisted he would not be distracted and reaffirmed his commitment to serve the country, writing:
“Fake news everywhere. These opposition elements are so pained by my appointment, and they are doing everything to discredit me and scuttle it. Whether they like it or not, I will serve my country! Keep crying!”
