The Ondo State Security Network Agency, popularly known as Amotekun Corps, on Monday presented 35 suspects arrested for various offences across the state.
According to reliable sources, the suspects were apprehended within one week across different locations in the 18 local government areas of Ondo State.
During the parade held at the corps’ headquarters in Akure, the state capital, the Commander of Amotekun in the state, Akogun Adetunji, stated that the suspects were connected to several crimes, including kidnapping, theft, rape, and human trafficking.
He disclosed that 19 of the suspects were arrested for breach of public order, three for human trafficking, eleven for kidnapping, and two for rape-related offences.
Adetunji further explained that in one of the human trafficking cases, suspects allegedly defrauded a victim of about 1.4 million cedis under the pretext of facilitating travel to Canada, adding that the victim was held for about two weeks before escaping and reporting the incident, which led to the recovery of the money and travel documents.
The commander also revealed that six suspects were involved in stealing motorcycles, attacking riders, and dismantling the stolen bikes for sale as spare parts.
Meanwhile, Adetunji added that operatives also recovered a stolen Lexus Jeep in Owo after blocking entry and exit routes in the town.
He further stated that enforcement of the ban on night-time commercial motorcycle operations had resulted in the seizure of over 120 motorcycles, warning that offenders would continue to face sanctions.
