Atiku raises alarm over fake news targeting him, ADC

Former Peoples Democratic Party presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has warned of what he described as a coordinated disinformation aimed at weakening his political standing and disrupting growing momentum within the African Democratic Congress.

The former Vice President raised the concern in a statement issued on Tuesday by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu.

Atiku rejected claims that he recently met with ADC stakeholders at the national level ahead of the 2027 elections, labelling the report as “malicious” and “fabricated.”

“At no time has the Waziri Adamawa held any such meeting with ADC stakeholders at the national level. His only recent engagement was with stakeholders in Adamawa State,” the statement read.

He stressed that any significant political move would be officially announced rather than circulated through what he called “anonymous leaks” or “faceless propaganda.”

Atiku said the report forms part of a wider scheme to sow confusion within the opposition and weaken emerging alliances ahead of the next general elections.

“What is unfolding is not idle rumour—it is a coordinated disinformation campaign designed to create confusion and dampen the rising momentum within the ADC,” the statement added.

He maintained that he remains a key figure in Nigeria’s political space, noting that current political discussions and alignments continue to centre around him.

“Across the political landscape today, conversations, speculations, and alignments are converging, and more often than not, they are converging around Atiku Abubakar,” it stated.

According to him, the heightened attention reflects his growing influence and has unsettled certain interests.

He urged supporters, ADC members, and Nigerians to ignore the claims and stay focused on efforts to reposition the country.

“This growing convergence has triggered panic among anti-democratic elements who now resort to crude propaganda in a desperate attempt to fracture a momentum they neither understand nor can contain.

“No amount of disinformation will halt this movement. The determination of Nigerians far outweighs the fear of those who have failed them,” it stated.
