The complete lineup of 48 teams set to compete at the 2026 FIFA World Cup has now been finalised, following the conclusion of the March international fixtures.
The tournament, which will be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, is expected to be the biggest edition in the competition’s history.
During the qualification window, six remaining spots were decided through playoff matches, with four going to European teams and two secured via FIFA’s intercontinental playoffs. Bosnia and Herzegovina produced the standout result in Europe by knocking out Italy, while Turkey, Sweden, and the Czech Republic also booked their places.
In the intercontinental playoffs, the Democratic Republic of Congo edged Jamaica 1–0, while Iraq claimed a 2–1 victory over Bolivia to seal the final qualification spots.
The 48 available slots are distributed as follows: UEFA (Europe) — 16; CAF (Africa) — 9; AFC (Asia) — 8; CONCACAF — 6 (including host nations); CONMEBOL — 6; OFC — 1, with two additional places determined through intercontinental playoffs.
