Tension returned to Jos, Plateau State, as hoodlums launched fresh assaults on motorists and residents in various parts of the city on Wednesday, even after the state government eased the curfew.
According to sources, a young man walking along the road to the UNIJOS Permanent Site was hacked to death by hoodlums without any provocation, escalating fear among residents already on edge due to growing unrest.
In the Terminus, Bauchi Road, and Gangere areas, several motorists had their windscreens smashed as mobs targeted passing vehicles and pedestrians. Business operations in affected communities were disrupted, with many shop owners keeping their doors closed to avoid being caught in the violence.
Banks in the volatile locations were also temporarily shut, as staff and customers struggled to navigate the heightened tension.
Residents identified the most affected areas as the UNIJOS corridor, Bauchi Road, Farin Gada, Tina Junction, and Chobe, noting that movement was significantly reduced as many people stayed indoors.
