Wike slams Bala Mohammed over ‘inconsistency’

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has criticised Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, describing him as inconsistent in his political positions.

Wike alleged that prior to the recently concluded national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mohammed approached him with a request to produce the party’s National Secretary, which he said he refused.

The FCT minister further claimed that in 2022, the Bauchi governor had urged him to back Bola Ahmed Tinubu—then the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC)—in the 2023 election, but allegedly reversed his position shortly afterwards.

Speaking during an inspection of ongoing projects in Jahi and Kuje in Abuja, Wike said such actions underscored what he described as the governor’s lack of consistency.

He also expressed satisfaction with the progress and quality of work by contractors handling various projects, including the bridge and road linking Jahi with Gwarimpa, the Airport Expressway to Kuje, and the Kuje–Gwagwalada road. He noted that the projects are slated for commissioning to mark the third anniversary of President Tinubu’s administration.

Wike dismissed claims by Governor Mohammed that he was planted to undermine the PDP, describing the allegation as “embarrassing, baseless and a product of an inconsistent mindset.”

Wike said, “It’s very embarrassing. He (Bala Mohammed) says one thing in the morning; in the afternoon, he says a different thing. But for us, we are very happy that he has told Nigerians who he is—that he’s never been stable.”

The minister also ridiculed Mohammed’s demand for the position of PDP National Secretary for his faction, referring to him as a “conquered person” who should negotiate from a position of weakness.

“You’re already conquered; you lost. You’re talking from a weak point, and you want to demand Secretary? That is not done,” Wike said.

He added that the recent PDP convention had put to rest predictions about the party’s collapse.

“The convention has shown that the PDP is alive and kicking. Yes, there are one or two issues, but that is normal, and we will fix them,” he said.

Wike further criticised politicians he described as inconsistent, cautioning Nigerians against those who “say one thing today and another tomorrow.”

He reaffirmed his stance to remain in the PDP while continuing his support for President Tinubu.

“I have made it clear: I will not leave the PDP, but I will continue to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. That has always been my position since 2022. I didn’t hide. Unlike those who will say one thing in the morning and say another in the afternoon,” Wike declared.
