The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has deployed more than 57,000 personnel nationwide ahead of the Easter celebrations to boost security and ensure a peaceful holiday period.
The mobilisation, approved by Commandant General Abubakar Audi, includes specialised tactical teams and intelligence officers tasked with safeguarding lives, property, and critical infrastructure.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the Corps’ National Public Relations Officer, Afolabi Babawale, the deployment was described as a proactive move covering all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory to address possible security threats during the festive season.
He explained that busy locations such as churches, shopping centres, parks, and recreational spots would be closely monitored through both visible patrols and undercover operations to deter crime.
Babawale said, “In anticipation of the upcoming Easter celebrations, the Commandant General of the NSCDC has sanctioned the mobilisation of over 57,000 officers. This massive deployment, which includes specialised tactical units and intelligence operatives, is designed to fortify national security and guarantee a peaceful holiday period for all citizens. The strategic operation spans all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. It serves as a proactive measure to address potential security threats while ensuring the absolute protection of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure.”
Zonal Commanders, State Commandants, and Provosts have also been directed to coordinate detailed security operations within their respective areas.
“Our goal is a seamless and secure Easter season. We are working hand-in-hand with sister agencies to maintain order. I also urge parents and guardians to guide their children properly, ensuring they are not manipulated into engaging in activities that could disrupt public peace,” he said.
He stressed the importance of vigilance, intelligence sharing, and swift response to incidents, adding that collaboration with other security agencies remains key.
Babawale further disclosed that specialised units such as the CG’s Special Intelligence Squad, Mining Marshals, Special Female Squad, and Crack Squad have been placed on high alert to respond quickly to any threats.
The corps also advised citizens to stay alert and report any suspicious activities to security agencies during the Easter period.
Meanwhile, the Federal Government has declared Friday and Monday as public holidays to mark the Easter celebrations.
