The Abia State Government has raised concerns over an alleged scheme by some political actors to fund a protest aimed at destabilising the state.
In a statement released by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, intelligence reports suggest that certain individuals are mobilising miscreants from Aba and nearby states to organise a protest tagged “Tinubu Dey Work, Otti Dey Chop.”
The government said the planned protest is intended to push a “false narrative” that projects currently being executed by the state were funded by the Federal Government.
Ekeoma maintained that it had previously clarified that federal refunds for such projects are no longer in place.
“The alleged plot is designed to trigger confrontation between the protesters and security operatives, particularly the State Task Force in Aba, which could escalate into violence, loss of lives, and a breakdown of law and order.
“The government warns that such actions may be part of efforts to create instability in the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“While we reaffirm our commitment to democratic principles and tolerance of opposition, we will take decisive action against any individual or group found attempting to endanger public safety under the guise of political expression”.
The government also called on parents and guardians to caution their children against taking part in politically driven protests that could put them at risk.
It reassured residents of its commitment to peace, security, and a democratic environment where individuals can freely pursue their political interests without fear or intimidation.
