The Nigerian film and television industry is in mourning following the death of veteran actor Davis Offor, popularly known for his role as Clarus in the classic sitcom The New Masquerade.

His passing was confirmed by fellow actor Tony Akposheri, who played Zacky in the series that became a defining production in Nigeria’s television history.

In a heartfelt Facebook tribute, Akposheri expressed deep sadness over the loss, recalling that they had spent time together recently. He said Offor appeared cheerful and hopeful when they met during the New Year period.

“Today, my heart is heavy. Davis Offor, fondly known as Clarus from New Masquerade, is gone,” he wrote.

“We crossed into the New Year together, laughing, talking, sharing memories, and speaking hopefully about the days ahead. None of us knew that time was already counting differently for you.”

Akposheri described the late actor as a close friend and brotherly figure, praising his warmth, humour, and lively personality that brightened every space he entered.

“You were more than a familiar face on screen. You were a friend, a brother, a man with warmth, humour, and a presence that could light up any space,” he added.

He also expressed difficulty accepting the sudden news, noting that Offor had been in good spirits during their last conversation.

“It is hard to believe that the voice I heard not long ago is now a memory. Hard to accept that someone so full of life can suddenly become a story we tell,” he said.

Davis Offor gained fame through The New Masquerade, a widely loved sitcom that entertained audiences with its humour and memorable characters, including the comical Clarus.

His death marks the passing of one of the familiar faces of early Nigerian television, remembered for bringing joy and laughter to many households.

Funeral arrangements have not yet been announced.
