The University of Benin (UNIBEN) has announced that all its degree programmes have received full accreditation from the National Universities Commission (NUC).

According to a statement issued on Saturday by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Benedicta Ehanire, the achievement marks the first time in several years that every programme offered by the university has been fully accredited.

The accreditation followed an exercise carried out by the NUC in October and November last year across various faculties, schools and centres within the university.

The Commission subsequently released its findings in a letter dated April 7, 2026, addressed to the Vice-Chancellor.

Reacting to the development, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Edoba Omoregie, attributed the success to the dedication and hard work of staff and management, as well as their commitment to academic excellence and institutional values.

He commended the Senate, faculties, departments and relevant committees for their efforts in ensuring compliance with accreditation requirements.

Omoregie reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in line with his five-point agenda.

The statement further noted that, “For the first time in many years, all degree programmes offered by the University of Benin have been fully accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

“The feat follows the successful accreditation exercise conducted by the Commission in October/November last year across Faculties, Schools and Centres in the University. The NUC recently released the result of the accreditation exercise in a letter dated 7th April, 2026, addressed to the Vice Chancellor.

“The full accreditation status of the University is for five years (till 2030).”
