A brilliant second-half hat-trick from Morgan Gibbs-White powered Nottingham Forest to an important 4-1 victory at home against Burnley, strengthening their chances of staying up.
Forest were 1-0 down before Gibbs-White inspired a remarkable comeback, lifting Vitor Pereira’s team five points above 18th-placed Tottenham, who sit in the last relegation position with five matches remaining.
Gibbs-White’s quickfire 15-minute hat-trick adds more frustration for Spurs, especially after they had attempted to sign him last summer.
The turnaround at the City Ground leaves second-from-bottom Burnley close to dropping straight back into the Championship, as the Clarets remain 12 points adrift of safety.
Scott Parker’s side had taken the lead through Zian Flemming’s stoppage-time goal in the first half, but Gibbs-White shifted the momentum.
He levelled the score with Forest’s first shot on target in the 62nd minute, then put them ahead seven minutes later with an excellent first-time volley at the back post.
The England international completed his hat-trick in the 77th minute with an impressive header, becoming only the third player to net a Premier League hat-trick for Nottingham Forest, following Kevin Campbell and Chris Wood.
Substitute Igor Jesus sealed the win with a fourth goal in stoppage time, extending the positive mood at the City Ground after the midweek victory over Porto that secured a place in the Europa League semi-finals.
