Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force in Akwa Ibom State have arrested two suspects in connection with the gruesome murder of a man identified as Okon in Ikot Udo Obobo village, Ukanafun Local Government Area.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Timfon John, the suspects were apprehended following intelligence-led operations and detailed investigations.
Police said they responded swiftly to credible information and arrived at the scene where the victim was found burnt beyond recognition, in what appeared to be a deliberate and premeditated act.
“The area was immediately cordoned off, and a full-scale investigation was launched to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident,” the statement noted.
The command added that sustained intelligence gathering and coordinated efforts led to the arrest of the suspects, who are currently in custody and assisting investigators with useful information.
“They are currently in custody and are providing useful information that will assist the command in identifying other possible accomplices and establishing the full details of the crime,” the police said.
Authorities have since ordered a comprehensive and discreet investigation to ensure all those involved are identified and brought to justice.
Describing the incident as a case of culpable homicide, the police reiterated their commitment to protecting lives and property and vowed to tackle criminal activities across the state.
