The Kano State Government has faced strong backlash after reports emerged of women’s underwear branded with the image of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf being distributed at a public event.
Photos and videos circulating online show women at a gathering, believed to be linked to political mobilisation activities ahead of the 2027 elections, displaying the branded items. The underwear reportedly carries a campaign-style portrait of the governor printed prominently on it.
The development has sparked widespread criticism and intense debate on social media, with many describing the move as inappropriate, disrespectful, and degrading to women. Critics have also questioned the use of such personal items for political mobilisation.
While some reports suggest the distribution was aimed at mobilising women ahead of future elections, others claim it was part of an outreach or empowerment initiative.
Supporters of the NNPP were also said to have responded by showcasing similar items branded with the image of Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso.
As of now, the Kano State Government has not released any official statement regarding the incident, with more details expected as public attention on the matter grows.
