The United States Mission in Nigeria on Monday cautioned Nigerian travellers against overstaying their visas, noting that such violations could negatively impact future applicants.
In a statement shared via its X handle, the Mission stressed the importance of adhering to U.S. immigration regulations.
“Visa overstays by Nigerian travellers can affect opportunities for their fellow citizens,” the advisory stated. “Strengthening compliance helps protect access for students, business travellers, and families who travel responsibly.”
It further warned that visa fraud and the misuse of travel documents remain serious issues, urging applicants to comply with visa conditions throughout their stay.
The Mission called on the public to help preserve the integrity of the system.
Individuals with credible information regarding visa fraud were encouraged to report such cases through official consular fraud prevention channels via [email protected] or [email protected].
While assuring that law-abiding travellers should not be disadvantaged by the actions of others, the Mission reaffirmed its commitment to promoting safe, lawful, and orderly travel between Nigeria and the United States.
