The Nigeria Police Force has directed members of the public to report any officer seen on duty without a visible name tag.
The instruction follows an order from the Inspector-General of Police, Olutunji Disu, enforcing compliance with Section 50(4) of the Nigeria Police Act 2020, which requires all officers to wear name tags while on duty.
According to the IGP, “We all have our name tags. It is not our standard to work without one.”
The Force Complaint Response Unit also reinforced the directive via its official X handle, urging citizens to promptly report any violation. The unit linked the campaign to its ongoing #NoToImpunity drive aimed at improving accountability and professionalism within the police force.
In its statement, it said: “UPDATE IGP @TunjiDisu1 enforces Section 50(4) [Nigeria Police Act 2020]. ‘We all have our name tags. It’s not our standard to work without one.’”
It further added: “Citizens are advised to report any personnel in breach of this regulation. We say #notoimpunity #policeisyourfriend @CspIniedu.”
The police explained that the directive is part of wider reforms by the current leadership to strengthen discipline and improve trust between officers and the public nationwide.
